WhitePages adds mobile site to app presence

Directory service WhitePages Inc. has launched a mobile site as part of its overall strategy to make it simple to find people and connect them to one another.

WhitePages already provides an iPhone and an Android application. By partnering with Netbiscuits, the company hopes to cover all phones in the market, from high-end devices like the iPhone, BlackBerry and Nokia down to basic and mid-range mobile phones, all with one application.

"Making WhitePages content accessible in a multichannel way and providing all information any place and any time makes it fantastically simple to use WhitePages to find any information, maps and routes, and to contact people or businesses right from your mobile," said Lars Hartkopf, head of marketing at Netbiscuits, Reston, VA.

WhitePages positions itself as the go-to source for contact information online. With accurate information for almost 200 million U.S. adults, the company makes finding and connecting with others simple. And it is free.

Netbiscuits is an international provider of a Web software platform for the creation, operation and monetization of mobile Web sites.

The WhitePages mobile site can be found at http://m.whitepages.com.

The site is formatted specifically to give fast access to phone numbers and addresses people need on the go.

The click-to-call feature makes it easy to start a call from the listing results, plus driving directions and maps are displayed for easy navigation to any destination address.

The mobile site has gives more relevant results and bring the best and closest local business listings to the top of your search results.

Users can find who they are looking for fast with new listing data like who is in the household, company name and job title for work listings, and the age range of the person.

Along with the new listing information, WhitePages added work listings to its mobile search results so users can find the personal and professional information they need.

The site will be automatically formatted to fit the screen and model of the user's phone, whether it's a Motorola Razr, BlackBerry or something in between.

"Mobile is the only ubiquitously available device, and the Internet is the most used information channel today," Mr. Hartkopf said. "Bringing those two together is an obvious step for a company like WhitePages."
