Land Rover takes a ride with mobile

Land Rover has launched a mobile Web portal for its all-terrain vehicles to drive sales.

Consumers looking for more information on the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, LR3 and LR2 can visit http://www.landrover.com from their Web-enabled phones to find out more about the cars. Land Rover's ad agency Young and Rubicam tapped Netbiscuits' mobile Web platform to deliver the rich content across all devices and carriers.

"Land Rover is a brand that reaches all corners of the globe, from the most developed urban environments to the most remote outback areas," said Ran Farmer, managing director North America for Netbiscuits, Reston, VA. "The connection with the expanding global reach of the mobile Web is clear.

"Since launching the Land Rover portal, the site has been viewed by mobile users in dozens of countries across North America, Europe, Africa and Asia," Mr. Farmer said.

Mobile users can browse videos, images, a 360 degree picture gallery and vehicle specifications of the four Land Rover marquee names.

Users can also request a physical brochure be mailed to an address and tell a friend about the mobile site, sending a link via SMS text message.

By using the Netbiscuits platform, the new mobile Web site now recognizes mobile phones that access the site and automatically adjusts content to the screen size.

There is also a separate page optimized for iPhone users.

Land Rover vehicles have audiences across the globe and creating optimized content for the largest mobile audience possible was essential.

Young and Rubicam used Netbiscuits' Web-based development platform to quickly develop the WAP portal to build the Land Rover brand among these mobile audiences.

Delivering rich content like photos and videos optimized for mobile devices was important to decrease download times and associate the Land Rover brand with cutting-edge media.

Netbiscuits' platform is available as a Web-based software service.

The platform provides all tools, interfaces and mobile enabling technologies online that are needed to develop, maintain, and market professional mobile Web applications.

"The advantage of Netbiscuits is that it provides the tools that developers need to create rich mobile experiences from a single platform that can then be delivered to mobile devices globally," Mr. Farmer said.

"For a premium global brand such as Land Rover, Netbiscuits makes it easy, quick and cost-effective to reach this broad mobile audience," he said.

Mobile devices and data plans are maturing and becoming more accessible to the general public and that's why brands like Land Rover are looking to reach this growing market.

"The Land Rover mobile site serves multiple purposes," Mr. Farmer said. "It positions the brand as a leader in the new mobile information channel.

"It extends the reach of the brand to a wide global audience," he said. "And, by using Netbiscuits it gives Land Rover better control over how it's message is communicated worldwide."
