Slacker gives away free BlackBerry Curves
Slacker Radio is holding a BlackBerry giveaway promotion in celebration of its success as a mobile radio application.
Slacker is not only lending a helping hand in the growth of the smartphone market, but creating one heck of a value exchange for its fans. Any Slacker fan has the opportunity to get a brand new BlackBerry smartphone by either starting up a new wireless contract or extending their current one.
"Our strategy is to provide a great way for Slacker listeners to grab a BlackBerry smartphone allowing them to take Slacker with them wherever they go, for the best possible price," said Jonathan Sasse, senior vice president of marketing at Slacker, San Diego.
Slacker has differentiated itself in the arena of mobile radio by exclusively providing users with the ability to cache stations onto a memory card, which lets users listen to their favorite music without any Internet connection.
Slacker's cache offering also gives the company an edge, as users will save battery life as opposed to using streaming-only services.
"We work with RIM on the Slacker Radio app for BlackBerry smartphones to ensure that it delivers the best possible mobile listening experience available and utilizes the advanced capabilities and features, including station caching and Bluetooth, offered by BlackBerry smartphones," Mr. Sasse said.
For the BlackBerry giveaway, any subscriber to Verizon, AT&T, Sprint or T-Mobile has the chance to get a free BlackBerry Curve.
While the offers from different carriers are not identical, Slacker promises that with a new contract or the extension of an existing one, fans will receive a BlackBerry smartphone.
To participate in the giveaway, consumers should visit http://www.slacker.com/promo/freephone.
There consumers can check out the guidelines of the promotion and learn how they can enter to get their free BlackBerry.
On the bottom right-hand side of the Web page, there is a blue button that reads "Get Free Phone" which will link the consumer to a sign-up page.
Participators must submit their wireless carrier information, the number of phones they'd like (one or two), choose the device they'd prefer and enter their ZIP code.
From there, consumers are linked to a new page that shows which BlackBerry phone is available to them from their carrier, and given the information on current wireless plan offerings.
The handset's original price is shown and marked out to reveal the new price of $0.00.
"We believe that smartphones will play an increasingly larger role in the lives of consumers and music fans," Mr. Sasse said.
"We are constantly working to improve our service to continue to provide the best music listening and discovery experience across multiple outlets and devices including smartphones, personal computers, televisions and connected home-audio devices," he said.
