Eelios launches location-based weather app
Weather information provider Eelios has launched a new location-based personal weather application for the iPhone and iPod touch called WxFix.
The differentiating factor between this application and the other weather-based applications on the market is that WxFix pin-points the user?s exact location to deliver weather reports, rather than targeting by city or ZIP code. Eelios calls this concept ?lifestyle weather.?
?Weather and mobile are highly coupled, which makes our application that much more compelling to the user on the go,? said Jim Maury, chief operating officer at Eelios, Colorado Springs, CO.
?Weather is always changing, not only hour-to-hour, but even minute-to-minute,? he said. ?Users can?t get away with just watching a forecast in the morning on their local TV news channel. Their active schedules require updates every hour to reflect forecast changes from rapidly changing weather.
?Users need an app that can keep them aware at a fast pace, and there is no better way to keep users informed than a mobile device.?
Eelios is a spin-off subsidiary of 21st Century Systems, which designs and implements data-driven decision-making tools for a variety of government and commercial customers.
WxFix provides weather information for an exact location, such as a home, a golf course, the beach or even a mountain top.
WxFix uses proprietary meteorological forecasting technology to deliver real-time weather data anytime, anywhere.
The mobile application lets users follow their location on the map and delivers current-hour forecasts that take into account nine weather variables.
Users can get weather-related information by dropping a pin on the map within the application.
Users also have the option of using the search bar to type in a desired location.
The WxFix application provides up to six days of forecasts or hourly forecasts for up to 144 hours.
?The outdoor activity lifestyle consumer is the primary WxFix demographic such as golfers, cyclists, hikers, skiers and etcetera,? Mr. Maury said. ?The frequent traveler is another key demo.
?WxFix will also likely resonate with families and moms who are keeping track of weather-associated activities with their kids? school and sports activities like soccer and football,? he said.
Users can also bookmark favorite locations and share them with friends and family via mobile.
The WxFix application also gives users the ability to check the Doppler radar at any resolution, with full-zoom and panning functionalities.
The WxFix mobile weather application is available for download in the Apple App Store for $2.99.
?With WxFix, for the first time, users have control points enabling them to tailor weather content to their daily life while they are on the go,? said Dave Andersen, CEO at Eelios, Omaha, NE.
?Eelios was founded on the idea of bringing to the market new solutions to solve the problem of getting good weather information just for you, wherever you are,? he said.
?We believe consumers of weather information are ready to pay for a product like WxFix that solves this problem, made possible by combining advancements in geo-spatial precision and personalized decision intelligence in a lifestyle-customizable app.?
