LSN Mobile Android app helps local media extend reach
LSN Mobile has rolled out its Local News, Weather and More Android application that aggregates news and information from more than 250 local sites.
Consumers can access local breaking news, video clips, weather, sports scores and school closings from LSN's network of local media which includes ABC, NBCU-Telemundo, Cox Television, McGraw Hill, Raycom and Local TV.
?Our goal is to make local news content available to viewers anytime, anywhere,? said Bill Burton, executive vice president of digital media at ABC, New York. ?With the development of the Android apps, we now have yet another way to provide our viewers with local news and information.?
This is the first phase in LSN's delivery.
In early May, the company will begin delivering individual applications for each of its affiliates.
Local News, Weather and More works using LSN's proprietary media-to-mobile platform that aggregates and delivers news and other content from numerous local media partners, offering their stations' branded Web site content.

The application is downloaded to an Android phone which pulls preset news and content and updates in real time.
LSN's Local News, Weather and More Android app includes style options for look and feel of local affiliates' sites.
Media and broadcasters can add content through a Web call within the application. This way, when features are added, the user does not have to download a new version each time.
Additionally, broadcasters get affiliate branding during the interstitial loading pages.
?Step two is we?ll give each station their own app,? said Lee Durham, CEO of LSN, Atlanta. ?The CTR on the mobile display advertising we?re doing in the apps, is upwards of 3 percent based on people wanting local information.
?We will help them sell the inventory, we have dedicated people that go into the market and help sell locally, and we have a mobile marketing division that will help,? he said.
Here is another screen grab of the application:
Consumers using the applications get news from across the entire U.S. and remember favorite sites. They can view streaming video that can be played at any connection speed.
The application will work on all Android devices available in the U.S. that allow for installation from Android Market.
What is unique about the LSN Android application is that it aggregates for everyone one of the company?s 246 local media properties.
Consumers can access the local news from one central location.
?We?re getting 200 million monthly page views, it?s really taking off,? Mr. Durham said. ?All of the feedback we?re getting has been extremely positive.?
