Zinio launches localized mobile media storefronts in 9 countries

To meet consumers? insatiable appetites for media on the go, Zinio has expanded its Unity Platform by creating a localized version of its iPhone and iPad applications in nine new countries.

The new localized Zinio applications are meant to create a high-definition experience for readers to explore, enjoy and buy content once and read anywhere. Additionally, the applications will serve as the gateways to more than 2,500 full-color magazines worldwide.

?From a consumer standpoint this means if you are from another country, say France, when you get the app it is in the French iTunes store and it is in French and you are buying it in Euros,? said Rich Maggiotto, San Francisco-based president/CEO of Zinio.

?For publishers, no matter where you are in the world, you are now able to sell your publication to French consumers in a relevant store front,? he said.

Last week, the iPad was delivered to consumers who pre-ordered devices in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and Britain. Zinio launched its localized applications to coincide with this.

The Zinio application offers popular international publishers and magazines including Conde Nast?s Vogue France, Spain?s ¡Hola!, Britain?s Wallpaper and Italy?s Focus

Over 829 new consumer titles have joined Zinio?s newsstand in the first quarter alone, representing the continued movement to a global digital-distribution strategy.

The Zinio App for iPad is available for free from the App Store on iPad or at http://www.itunes.com/appstore.

For publishers, the expansion of the applications into different countries means that consumers overseas do not need to wait for international publications in the mail. They can get them instantly via the Zinio application.

This expansion opens up a significantly bigger audience for publishers and gets rid of borders,? Mr. Maggiotto said. ?Think about an American magazine. There are so many more consumers outside of the U.S. that speak English than there are in the U.S. that speak English.

?By offering consumers in Britain and Australia the option to buy American magazines, U.S. publishers are expanding their reach,? he said. ?This announcement continues to position Zinio as the clear leader in the mobile media market.

?Even before the iPad launched overseas, we were seeing all this traffic and sales coming from overseas. This is indicative of a clear appetite for what we were doing outside the U.S. The global expansion of our platform is a continuation of a trend.?
