VSP Vision Care lets users schedule doctor appointments via mobile site

VSP Vision Care, a nonprofit vision benefits and services company, rolled out a mobile-optimized Web site that lets on-the-go members access information on local ophthalmologists.

Members can locate nearby network doctors and schedule appointments. Users can also check their benefits and browse eyewear.

?Since an ever-increasing number of people are using smartphones to navigate their daily lives, we decided to make it possible for our members to find a VSP network doctor and check their vision benefits there too,? said Dave Dess, vice president of marketing at VSP Vision Care, Rancho Cordova, CA.

?Making this information easy to access is just one more way to make their experience with VSP even better,? he said. ?For convenience access to their vision care information, iPhone users can add the VSP launcher icon to their home screen.

?We're communicating the news to our members, doctors and clients through online newsletters, emails, Web sites, benefit fairs and social-media channels.?

Mobile site
Users can access the VSP Vision Care site by entering http://www.vsp.com on their mobile browser.

Usablenet powered the company?s mobile site.

In addition to locating the nearest VSP network doctor, members can use the click to call function to schedule their appointment.

The company developed the mobile site to keep up with the demands of its tech-savvy members.

?Users will be able to register for a VSP.com member account from their smartphone,? Mr. Dess said.  ?This will allow members that currently do not have an account to check their benefits, access their Member Vision Card, and find a VSP Doctor that participates in their plan.?

Mobile access
In addition, members can update their My Account profile information.

In the event that a member needs to make a change to their mailing address, email address or mobile phone number, they can update the information online via the site.

?VSP.com developed its multichannel strategy in an effort to extend its services and information to subscribers, wherever they are,? said Nick Taylor, president of Usablenet, New York.

?With its Usablenet-powered mobile site, VSP can better serve its subscribers by allowing them to perform important tasks, all on their phone,? he said. ?For example, leveraging location-based technology, customers can identify nearby vision specialists and immediately make an appointment.?
