J Vineyards & Winery taps mobile bar codes to educate wine enthusiasts
J Vineyards & Winery has incorporated mobile bar codes onto its labels to educate consumers on the particular wine bottle they scan.
The company decided to use mobile bar codes because of the growing number of smartphones in the market and to further engage its ever-changing tech-savvy consumers. When consumers scan the QR code, they can learn more about the product and get tips on the best food to pair it with.
Wine for thought
J Vineyards & Winery focuses on Brut and Brut Rose sparkling wines, as well as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris Estate varietal wines, produced from grapes farmed primarily within Sonoma County's Russian River Valley appellation.
The company integrated the informational mobile bar codes to celebrate 25 years as a business in Sonoma County.
The QR codes are featured on two of its upcoming wine releases ? the 2010 J California Pinot Gris varietal wine and the J Cuvee 20 Anniversary sparkling wine.
Mobile bar code
When consumers scan the mobile bar code, they are taking to a mobile-optimized page where they can watch a video on the wine.
The company?s founder and president are featured in the video and offer wine and food pairing tips to the user.
In addition to wine back labels, consumers can also find the QR codes on technical wine sheets and the company?s Web site.
