NBC, LimeLife to launch Law & Order mobile game
NBC Universal and LimeLife Inc. are debuting a mobile game entitled "Law & Order: Celebrity Betrayal" based on NBC's long-running crime drama.
"Law & Order: Celebrity Betrayal" will put players into a murder mystery where they will interact with cast members, interrogate witnesses, solve the crime and proceed to trial.
"We looked across all product lines based on the understanding on how women use their phones," said Barbara Rybka, vice president of marketing at LimeLife, Menlo Park, CA. "We've found that puzzles and mystery solving are the most popular genres.
"The Law & Order game was a natural fit for us with [NBC having] great brand recognition and being a great collaborative partner," she said.
Law & Order is currently in its 18th season. Executive producer Dick Wolf and his team helped to develop this game with LimeLife.
In the game, players work to solve New York's latest celebrity crime by investigating the crime scene, interrogating witnesses and bringing their key suspect to trial.
The object of the game is to build a case and win a conviction with advice and feedback from Law & Order cast members such as Sam Waterston and Alana De La Garza.
Players show evidence they have collected throughout every stage of the story during the game's complete trial experience, and try to win a conviction to become the rookie Law & Order star.
Another feature of "Law & Order: Celebrity Betrayal" are four mini-games that directly affect the strength of a player's case.
At the game's precinct location, players can process evidence and obtain warrants by playing the Warrant Race game, and search for rumors playing the Coffee Run game. While in court, players can try their luck at Case Overload or Takeout Dash.
"Law & Order: Celebrity Betrayal" will be available for a one-time download charge of $6.99 or $2.99 monthly subscription fee on most major U.S. carriers.
"It's a pretty well-known fact that discovery is an issue," Ms. Rybka said. "How many people download games compared to SMS on their phone is small.
"We'll be launching our WAP site next month probably," she said. "The site will be another vehicle for people to discover content and to help us build awareness."
