Buzzwire offers Democratic convention coverage on mobile
Buzzwire Inc. is giving Americans access to coverage of the Democratic National Convention right on their mobile phones.
Beginning Aug. 25, Buzzwire will provide special DNC coverage within its new "DNC 2008" channel. It will feature reports from Barely Political's Obama Girl, convention news updates from Political Lunch, man-on-the-street interviews and video from after-hours parties and hot spots around convention host city Denver, CO.
"Our strategy is to bring more awareness to consumers about the different ways they can consume media on their cell phones," said Andrew MacFarlene, CEO of Denver-based Buzzwire.
A streaming media service, Buzzwire gives consumers access to original Web programming through Web and one-click mobile access and allows them to share with others.
In addition to special reports from Barely Political's Obama Girl, the Buzzwire "DNC 2008" channel will feature a daily report from Political Lunch as well as off-the-wall clips captured around Denver.
Consumers can use Buzzwire to catch the latest DNC news on the go and share their favorites with friends through a text message option.
BarelyPolitical.com's videos are a mainstream pop culture staple, particularly with services such as Buzzwire.
Anyone with a video-enabled mobile phone can gain access to the special Buzzwire political channel through http://m.buzzwire.com on their mobile phone browser or http://app.buzzwire.com on the traditional Web.
The DNC 2008 channel will be featured along with other popular categories. Obama Girl will be hosting an event with Buzzwire on Tuesday, Aug. 26.
Barely Political was founded in June 2007 by Ben Relles. In just a little over a year the site has established itself as one of the most talked about, blogged about and watched comedy networks on the Internet.
The Barely Political team has produced more than 100 political satire videos including the hit viral video, "I Got a Crush on Obama," featuring Obama Girl.
Since launching with that video, Barely Political videos have been viewed online more than 100 million times globally.
"The explosion of digital media has caused younger generations to jump back into the political game because information is now available through media that speak to them," Mr. MacFarlene said.
"We'll provide an alternative to the traditional big media coverage and present a unique view of the convention," he said.
