USA Today brings editorial content to Motorola Xoom
USA Today has rolled out its content to the Motorola Xoom tablet to let on-the-go readers stay on top of news via whatever device they have.
The USA Today Android 3.0 application features the same signature look and design that the company uses for its newspaper and Web site. Readers can browse photos, graphics and read up on the latest news via the tablet application.
?Our strategy is to continue to extend USA Today?s digital content and services to customers wherever they are and whenever they want it,? said Steve Kurtz, vice president of digital development at USA Today, Washington.
USA Today is a multi-platform news and information media company.
Mobile features
The application features the latest news, sports scores, weather, stock quotes and photos available.
Readers can receive news as it breaks, check on weather, share stories via email, SMS or Twitter and flip through the day's best photos from news, sports, celebrities, science, travel and weather or play them back as a slideshow.
?Demographics for consumers on Android tablets are not yet available, but we imagine they will be diverse and related to price, functionality and features,? Mr. Kurtz said.
Readers can view the USA Today Snapshots feature
Users can read articles via the application
Mobile presence
USA Today is currently available on several platforms and devices including iPhone, Android, iPad, Google TV, the Chrome Web Store and Windows-based slate PCs.
USA Today is expanding its mobile strategy.
Last month, the company featured Microsoft Tags in its newspaper and is letting readers scan the bar codes to access videos and other digital content.
USA Today believes that the initiative will provide readers with access to daily photo galleries and the latest financial news and scores.
Readers can also view additional video and digital features (see story).
Additionally, last year the company made its APIs available via the new USA Today Developer Network where developers can discover content and build new applications for the Web and digital platforms.
With the launch of the USA Today developer network, the company invites developers to experience exciting new ways to tap into some of the great content that is unique to USA Today (see story).
Android market
USA Today is getting the word out about its new application via traditional advertising, social media and the Android Market.
?Part of the strategy with this application will allow us to be available on all of the upcoming Android tablets,? Mr. Kurtz said.
