Waterfall launches green beer search tool for St. Patrick's Day

Just in time for St. Patrick's Day, Waterfall Mobile has launched a text-message-based search engine to find green beer.

Mobile phone owners in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston and New York City can text the keyword "GREENBEER" to short code 67463 for a list of bars near them serving green beer.

"The green beer finder is us having some fun with our own technology," said Matt Silk, senior vice president of Waterfall Mobile, Los Angeles. "We wanted to demonstrate the ways we can use mobile to make our lives better.

"We wanted to show people how easy it is to use our technology," he said.

Green beer is a St. Patrick's Day tradition in many homes, restaurants and pubs. It is a mixture of regular beer and food coloring.

Waterfall Mobile develops Web-based software products for enterprises to tap into the power of mobile.

After participants text in to find green beer in their area, they are asked to select the closest neighborhood to them.

The system will match them with a nearby pub or brewery serving the time-honored, magically green concoction for St. Patty's Day.

Waterfall Mobile also announced that it is now the premium mobile marketing technology provider for all of Anheuser Busch's mobile campaigns.

The brewer has already used Waterfall's technology for its 2009 mobile campaigns.

Mr. Silk was not able to discuss the specifics of the campaigns.

Warner Music Group is also using Waterfall Mobile's technology for its mobile initiatives.

"We did a deal with Warner Corporate and trained the marketing managers of each label on how to use our technology," Mr. Silk said.

Also, Waterfall Mobile recently launched a new version of its Msgme mobile technology that includes a developer portal and Interactive Voice Response (IVR).

"Despite the economy, we have a lot of stuff going on here," Mr. Silk said. "We are building out our developer portal. We launched a developer site where tech folks can look at our APIs.

"We are really helping the tech folks build mobile marketing services into their existing platforms," he said.
