Shazam connects Red Hot Chili Peppers with fans via mobile

Shazam is letting one lucky music fan win a trip to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers perform live in Paris as part of its Golden Tag mobile promotion.

Users in the United States and Canada can use their iPhone and Android device to Shazam the band?s new single ?The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie." When consumers Shazam the song, they will receive a chance to enter and win a grand price trip for two to Paris, which includes airfare and a two-night stay in a hotel.

?Our strategy was to give Shazamers a great experience, both with the music they love and our app,? said David Jones, executive vice president of marketing at Shazam.

The mobile contest runs until Sept. 15.

In addition to one lucky winner, five Shazam users will be awarded with a Red Hot Chili Peppers prize pack that includes the band?s new album, ?I?m With You.?

Users can enter the Golden Tag promotion by activating the Shazam Friends feature within their application.

Additionally, fans can follow the Golden Tag promotion on the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Shazam Facebook pages.

?We used mobile because no matter where people are when they hear a great tune ? in this case, Red Hot Chili Peppers ? they have their mobile device with them,? Mr. Jones said.

Shazam Golden Tag promotions are one of the many ways the company is working with major label artists today. 

In addition to opportunities to meet the artist, Golden Tag promotions can include concert tickets, free downloads, song debuts and loads of other prizes. 

?We are getting the word out about this through media outreach, direct outreach to U.S. Shazamers and social media outreach,? Mr. Jones said.
