MTV launches Music ID mobile package for select Sprint customers
MTV has rolled Music ID, a complete mobile music package available on select Sprint devices.
Music ID lets fans keep tabs on their favorite artists, stay up-to-date on pop culture news, listen to their favorite music and discover new bands on the go. The service is only available on the following Sprint Android devices: LG Optimus S, Sanyo Zio and Samsung Transform.
?The strategy behind the MTV Music ID pack is to provide our fans ? who are avid mobile users ? with a one-stop shop for music discovery by aggregating the best music apps available from MTV and beyond,? said Dermot McCormack, executive vice president of digital media at MTV Networks Music & Logo Group, New York.
?The MTV Music ID creates a mobile experience that?s focused solely on music discovery, as opposed to what app you need to use,? he said. ?It eliminates the need to search and download separate music apps.?
MTV is a youth entertainment brand, with a global reach of more than a half-billion households.
Music lovers
MTV Music ID makes it easy for Sprint wireless customers with Android-powered devices who love music to get applications that keep them connected to the music and artists they love.
Rather than get lost in Android Market?s 100,000-plus applications, searching for those they would like to download, users simply click the MTV Music ID icon on their device.
Music ID then automatically loads applications, widgets, ringtones and wallpapers, all tailored by MTV to meet their customers? musical interests.
For further customization, users are still free to download additional applications from Android Market.
MTV Music ID includes MTV News, MTV Photos and the MTV Music Meter.
MTV Meter: The MTV Music Meter is a daily list of artists trending right now.
Users can discover these artists and others like them through audio samples, photos, recent tweets, news articles and biographies.
MTV News App: Users get access to the biggest stars and pop-culture happenings around the clock. The application is customizable to users based on the news category that interests them most (music, celebrity, shows, movies and gaming).
MTV Headlines Widget: Users get instant headlines and pop-culture news about music, movies, television, celebrities and gaming.
MTV Photos: The Photos feature provides access to stars, artists and pop-culture events. Users can browse photo flipbooks and share the ones they like with your friends via email, Facebook or Twitter.
MTV Twitter: Provides instant updates from the official MTV Twitter account.
?The MTV Music ID provides a customizable MTV experience for music fans to keep users connected to the music and artists they love in a simple, clean interface,? Mr. McCormack said. ?It?s also the first mobile device to host the MTV Music Meter.
?The MTV Music Meter provides music fans with an easy-to-navigate discovery interface where they can see check out and interact with the 100 most buzzed about up-and-coming artists,? he said.
?Working with EchoNest we?ve developed a unique algorithm that searches social media, blogs, and video streams to populate the list and provide fans with a daily update of the most buzzed about bands. From there, fans can stream 30-second snippets of songs, watch music videos, view photos, read tweets about the artists, read news items and bios, as well as access similar artists.?
