Broong launches a mobile virtual post-it

Social network Broong has created a mobile note service tool, letting people search, create and share multimedia content via their handsets.

Broong is an interactive Web service that allows people to interact through multimedia notes across multiple platforms over mobile devices and desktops. With this service, users can create, share and edit content.

"The idea behind the mobile component is to allow users to quickly share a 'virtual note' with multimedia content all while on the go," said Sun Young Moon, co-founder and vice president of marketing and communication at Broong, San Francisco, CA. "Part of the logic is similar to Twitter on a mobile device but the main differentiators are that Broong enables mobile users to embed YouTube videos, images and interactive maps.

"For example, if a mobile device is capable of displaying maps then a user would instantly be able to figure out how to get to a destination that was sent through Broong," she said. "You would send me a Broong Note which includes a map that I can use to get to my final destination -- the restaurant that you recommended through a Broong Note.

"The key here is being able to quickly share anything that you want to with your friends, family or the Broong community."

Ms. Moon also said that the whole idea is based on sharing thoughts and as more people begin to share, more people will find Broong's value.

Much like Facebook, Twitter and Digg, Broong is relying on users to create and share their ideas within the community.

Broong Notes allow users to share information and multimedia content, such as YouTube videos, text, images, hyperlinks and maps, online and mobile Web. Users can share music artists, recipes and points of interest as well.

In addition, Broong also offers such features as forwarding, embedding content and tagging and commenting on Broong Notes. Users can control make their notes private or public, send them to friends and embed them on blogs.

Anyone can view Broong Notes even if they are not registered with the site. However, to create a Broong Note a user must register, free of charge. The service is accessible from any internet enabled mobile device in addition to the typical PC, laptop and Mac.

"Broong delivers a service that allows users to quickly share ideas without having to create a long email or message," Ms Moon said. "Many users want to send a quick note to share tiny pieces of information but would also like to share multimedia content at the same time.

"Broong allows for users to quickly do both of these," she said. "Broong's targets include bloggers and social networking service users that regularly share ideas through online and mobile social interaction."
