Sybase kicks off TechWave 2008 Conference
LAS VEGAS - Sybase Inc., an enterprise software and services company exclusively focused on managing and mobilizing information, has kicked off its 10th annual TechWave User Training and Solutions Conference.
This year's event is running August 4 -- 8 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. It will highlight Sybase's Unwired Enterprise strategy, which brings together information management and mobility services to enable enterprises to let their employees and customers access their data via mobile.
"Sybase 365 had a banner year and we're continuing to expand our mobile applications platform," said John Chen, president, chairman/CEO of Sybase, Dublin, CA. "We've added 788 new mobile enterprises, 164 new messaging customers and 800 million new mobile subscribers to the network that we can reach out to, bringing our total global reach to 3.5 billion wireless subscribers."
Throughout this week, Sybase will continue to unveil a series of new product releases designed to meet the needs of developers and end-users alike, including mobility platforms to data management systems and developer tools.
The company's new product announcements at TechWave included many that add to their suite of mobility services.
With Sybase Unwired Platform, Sybase can mobilize enterprise applications and extend them to employees and end consumers by providing a single mobile platform.
Sybase Unwired Platform is designed to ease the development, deployment and management of strategic mobile applications to a range of mobile device types. In addition, it streamlines device security and management.
Afaria 6.0, a component of the Sybase Information Anywhere Suite, will include a new relay server architecture that works across multiple Information Anywhere Suite components to offer highly secure communications for data synchronization and mobile device management functions.
Additional capabilities within Afaria 6.0 will be focused on reducing IT administration costs, including a new policy-based device management capability, support for Open Mobile Alliance Client Provisioning and a local password recovery feature.
Sybase claims that its Unwired Platform will provide the ability to build, deploy and manage mobile applications in a way that is simple, fast, secure and open.
The platform also provides the ability to design once and easily deploy to a range of mobile device types, classes and operating systems, including Microsoft's Windows Mobile, Apple's iPhone 3G and Research In Motion's BlackBerry.
Sybase's goal is to provide decision-ready information on any device and any operating system, and plans on collaborating with Google's Android when that platform launches.
"We've seen a 14 percent growth in mobile devices and a 40 percent growth in smartphones," Mr. Chen said. "Smartphones have more capacity, and the capabilities of mobile GPS are opening up a storm of new location-based applications."
The platform lets companies to create an information edge by optimizing and enhancing the infrastructure they already own, linking valuable data resources and securely delivering information via mobile.
Sybase Unwired Platform is currently scheduled to be available in Q4 2008.

"We deliver 150 text messages worldwide, and now we are the largest MMS provider in the world," Mr. Chen said.
