Metacafe enables consumers to send short-form videos to mobile

Video entertainment Web site Metacafe and mobile content providers Nareos Inc. and Zed are trying to make it easy for users to find the videos they like.

The content providers created an application that lets users access videos by visiting http://www.metacafe.com. Once on the site, users can click "Send to Mobile" and the video of their choice is either streamed or downloaded to their mobile device.

"The short videos featured on Metacafe are especially well-suited to watching on the small screen while on-the-go," said Michelle Cox, director of corporate communications at Metacafe, Palo Alto, CA.

"And our sophisticated approach to content filtering, which is all about gathering audience feedback every step of the way and using it to program the site, makes it easy to find videos you're likely to enjoy without having to go through the painful process of browsing and searching via the mobile interface," she said.

The Send to Mobile sharing feature is available in Spain, United States, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Britain, India and Sweden. Metacafe hopes to extend the sharing functionality to viewers in other markets in coming months.

Beverly Hills-based Nareos is best known for its mobile file-sharing technology, which aids companies with distribution of digital content through mobile networks.

Zed is headquartered in Madrid. It develops and markets entertainment and community products and services for mobile and the Internet.

Metacafe specializes in short-form original content and claims to have more than 28 million viewers each month, according to comScore Media Metrix.

"The Send to Mobile functionality is really about addressing the opportunity to extend our reach and provide viewers with great entertainment experiences regardless of time or place," Ms. Cox said.

"People around the world are using their mobile devices for much more than one-to-one communication these days, and social media offerings such as Metacafe are a great example of that," she said.

"Our global strategy is to expand on our worldwide reach and continue to grow viewership internationally by localizing the site in key markets and delivering content via new platforms such as mobile."
