Go2 launches mobile traffic site, alerts service
Mobile media company go2 Media has launched go2 Traffic, a real-time traffic information and mobile alerts service to help commuters find the fastest route to their intended destination.
With the go2 Traffic service, commuters will be able to receive real-time traffic reports and SMS alerts that informs them of the fastest route to their destination. Users can access go2 Traffic through the "Local Traffic" link on go2's mobile Internet site at http://www.go2.com.
"Go2 Media aims to support the local information needs of our mobile users, and providing easy access to real-time traffic information via any Web-enabled mobile phone is about as useful as it gets," said Rob Adler, CEO of go2 Media, Boston, MA.
"The addition of local traffic information is consistent with go2's increasing emphasis on providing mobile consumers all the information they may need or want whenever they are on-the-go, including business listings, directions and on-the-road traffic data."
In addition to alerts, drivers can also view real-time local traffic conditions, commuter updates and alternate routes powered by Navteq's Traffic.com. Go2 also offers users access to information on car rental locations, cheap gas stations, and nearby repair shops.
Go2 Traffic is accessible from any WAP-enabled phone with a variety of placements throughout the go2 network, such as go2 Travel and go2 News and go2 Weather.
Navteq is a traffic services provider for businesses and commuters.
Mr. Adler also said that go2 Media and Navteq are working together to deliver ads on these pages.
Go2 Traffic, also provides a platform for advertisers looking to target consumers based on location and relevance.
In other recent news, go2 Media said that wireless carrier T-Mobile USA Inc. has added links to go2 Media sites onto its t-zones menu.
Through these links, T-Mobile USA Web subscribers can access go2's other applications, including Election '08, a mobile news site focused on this year's presidential elections, and the Sports channel which includes coverage of major sports leagues such as the NBA and NFL portals, a golf portal, trivia and ticket information.
"Mobile users continue to express a critical need for localized information whenever they are on-the-go," Mr. Adler said. "The addition of this real-time, local traffic information extends go2 Media's reach beyond local listings to include news, weather, sports, traffic and specialized sites for music, movies, events and other entertainment."
