AT&T adds voice search to YPmobile local listings app

AT&T Interactive is letting YPmobile users search for local information by voice and share results with their online network of friends.

Map-based search and quick access to recently viewed businesses and events give YPmobile users more convenient ways to find what they need. Integration with Facebook and Twitter adds to the application's sharing capabilities by letting users broadcast their newly discovered local hot spots.

?We are all about helping mobile consumers find what they need locally while on the go, whether it is offering new ways to search or more ways to connect with the people you care about with local information,? said Min Chan, executive director of mobile products at AT&T Interactive, Glendale, CA.

?As with any of our other products, our goal is to create ways for consumers to discover and connect with local businesses, including our advertisers,? he said.

?We have made improvements to the application so that consumers have more options to find a business they are looking for, giving businesses the opportunity to connect with potential customers looking for their type of business.?

The latest version of the YPmobile application builds on a mobile local search experience that already includes tools to search and discover including business video profiles, local event search and sharing via email.

The YPmobile application is available for free from the App Store for iPhone and iPod touch or at http://www.itunes.com/appstore.

Voice search ? a key addition to the mobile local search experience ? is the result of a collaborative effort between AT&T Interactive and AT&T Labs.

?YPmobile is an extension of advertiser placement on YP.com, AT&T Interactive's flagship Web property,? Mr. Chan said. ?You'll find several types of ads on YPmobile, including pay-per-call ads and video profiles.

?Adding featured placement for pay-per-call advertisers on YPmobile leverages a unique opportunity to monetize the mobile local channel and offer businesses a cost-effective way to connect with mobile consumers,? he said.

?Access to video profiles give advertisers another way to interact with consumers while on the go and provide a glimpse into a business before walking in the door.?
