Hustler pursues paid content strategy with new Android app
LFP Broadcasting LLC, the television and mobile content division of Larry Flynt?s Hustler, has released an application for Google?s Android featuring racy photos and videos.
Available for $2.99, the new Hustler application focuses on current Hustler Honeys and classic All-Stars from the past 36 years, featuring photos and videos, behind-the-scenes interviews and new Hustler talent. This application, which is Hustler?s first foray into the mobile application space, also offers content and features such as cartoons and jokes.
?Hustler?s strategy is always to give our customer what they want?they want our content, and they want to be able to access it in every way possible,? said Julie Messing, director of public relations of Flynt Management Group LLC, Beverly Hills, CA.
?The Android platform offers us a new way to connect with our customer, and we did so in a way that is true to the Hustler brand: beautiful girls, Hustler humor, lots of features and bonus content, and everything delivered in a slick, classic, professional and polished way,? she said.
Hustler is a monthly pornographic magazine aimed at men and published in the United States. It was first published in 1974 by founder/chairman Larry Flynt.
Mr. Flynt also owns the Hustler Casino in Gardena, CA, as well as a chain of Hustler stores that sells adult-oriented videos, clothing, magazines and sex toys. The chain's flagship store is on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood.
July Systems did the development work for the Hustler Android application.
Hustler goes mobile
Hustler?s main goal was to introduce an application that satisfies its current Hustler fans, as well as one that attracts new interest.
Users will have a chance to see exclusive photos and videos of their favorite girls, and the application also gives them an insider's glimpse into the girls' off-camera personalities through video interviews.
Methods for delivering content grow everyday and the adult entertainment brand is eager to bring Hustler products to Android users.
Hustler believes that this application will expose its brand to a whole new crop of adult fans.
Ms. Messing said that the Hustler fan base spans all demographics, largely due to the broad-based appeal of its different business entities.
For example, the broadcasting group has a primarily male audience usually 30-plus, but the parody releases on the channels and through DVD sales reach couples as well.
The Hustler Hollywood retail stores have a 55 percent female clientele and Hustler Magazine readers tend to be older, while the Internet sites and apparel sales tend to reach the 18-to-35 audience.
The casino and the various Hustler Clubs have a wide spectrum of 18-plus customers, per Ms. Messing.
The other significant audience is Mr. Flynt?s political first amendment advocates, which can be very different from Hustler?s other fans.
?We feel the Hustler Android app has mass appeal, which mirrors our brand,? Ms. Messing said.
Since the company was eager to get the Hustler Android application out to the marketplace, it presently does not have any advertisements, but Ms. Messing said the publisher would certainly explore the right opportunities for the right advertising and promotional partner that matches the core Hustler audience.
Hustler has always found that customer satisfaction generates word of mouth, and that is the best advertising.
The publishers will use house inventory in Hustler magazine, Barely Legal magazine, Hustler.com and its other PC and mobile Web sites to promote the application.
?As our mobile phone based activities continue to develop, we will look at other mobile Web and cross-app advertising strategies,? Ms. Messing said. ?At Hustler, we are extremely fortunate to have a wide variety of ways to reach out to our loyal customers.
?Additionally, we are already seeing a huge surge in purchases for the app worldwide based on the press announcement and expect it to keep growing daily,? she said.
