Opera launches new cross-platform mobile browser
Opera Software has introduced a new cross-platform user interface for mobile devices.
Opera Mobile 10, available on Google?s Android, Brew, Microsoft?s Windows Mobile and Nokia?s Symbian/S60 smartphones, now includes the new user interface. The new user interface unifies the look and feel of the mobile browsers for the various operating systems.
?A customizable, cross-platform user interface framework is at the core of Opera deliveries to its customers to help advance the Internet experience,? said Christen Krogh, chief development officer at Opera, Olso, Norway.
?With the help of Opera, customers now have not only the best Internet experience on mobile phones, but also a very powerful and flexible framework as a solid base for additional innovation and differentiation, without compromising their brand value or look-and-feel requirements,? he said.
Mr. Krogh said that carriers will now be able to deliver a consistent level of features, user experience and customizations across their full portfolios of mobile products no matter what platform, form factor or operating system. This new platform is also more cost and time-efficient, he said.
Opera is a cross-platform Web browser.
The future of mobile browsing
Opera's cross-platform user interface framework is built on top of the browser engine, letting it work seamlessly on all platforms running Opera Mobile or Opera Mini.
Opera said that carriers can deploy one browser user interface to a wide range of devices with minimal integration requirements.
As a result, Opera said it will be a consistent Internet experience for the end users and time and cost savings for the carriers or OEMs.
The mobile browser features tabs, speed dial and a password manager.
Mr. Krogh said that the new strategy will help increase time to market for OEMs and carriers for new products and services.
The service will let OEMs and carriers deliver a singular user experience layer across devices instead of having to create a new one for every different device or family of devices - and stay ahead of the game as new platforms and operating systems hit the market.
?This will allow Opera to work with more customers and gain more traction across the complete mobile portfolios of operators and OEMs across the globe,? Mr. Krogh said. ?What we want to showcase with this announcement, is that OEMs and operators can take a different route.
?They can create a rich browsing experience with a single, powerful browser core, Opera, while still maintaining control of the UI and being able to deliver this product more quickly and efficiently across their entire mobile portfolio,? he said. ?We think this is the future.?
