Acision powers Sprint's outbound messaging services
Wireless carrier Sprint has confirmed it is using Acision's SMS platform for all outbound messages.
Acision's messaging service allows Sprint to provide its customers with messaging services. Global mobile messaging traffic is set to soar to record numbers in 2009 and North American messaging is likely to hit double digit growth, according to Ovum.
"Sprint wanted to increase the user experience and the overall handset experience and obviously text messaging is a part of that," said Wayne Irwin, president of Acision, Plano, TX.
To support the ongoing increase in message usage, last year Sprint deployed Acision's messaging service to ensure that customer always have a good service, even during peak periods of messaging such as New Year's Eve or the presidential inauguration.
Acision works with carriers worldwide to develop new functionality that helps retain subscribers, grown their existing user communities and increase revenues.
In 2008, the mobile messaging industry reached a milestone with over 2 trillion messaging transactions taking place worldwide, according to a study by Ovum.
The carrier is confident that in 2009 messaging will continue to dominate as a primary communication tool.
"SMS is currently experiencing double0digit growth in North America and other parts of the world," Mr. Irwin said.
"Text messaging continues to grow and new demographics continue to adopt it and those who have used it before continue to use it."
