Dive Brief:
- Toronto digital marketing and design company has an unusual application process: A BuzzFeed quiz.
- BuzzFeed quizzes have become ubiquitous on social media sites and now allows readers, and in this case the agency, to create their own versions.
- The quiz — titled “Would You Fit in at 88 Creative?”— helped the agency decipher two things according to the managing director Erin Bury: That applicants had similar interests to the agency culture and that they lived on social media and understood its culture.
Dive Insight:
Not only is the BuzzFeed quiz an easy way to get attention, but it found several interview-worthy candidates for an open position—though they ended up hiring someone who actually had not taken the quiz, ironically. Though not everyone is a fan of 88 Creative's tactic. “That’s a terrible way of going about recruiting people. It results in the potential for stereotyping people; it’s rife with bias," said Rick Lash, director of talent and leadership at the Hay Group, a management consultancy.
