Dive Brief:
- Yahoo is reportedly reaching out to agencies for a marketing push that will go across all mediums.
- The web portal has been making big moves ever since CEO Marissa Mayer took over in July 2012. It has acquired more than 30 websites, launched several new verticals, and will even start offering a streaming service that will resurrect the NBC comedy Community.
- While Yahoo declined to comment, AdAge reports that the talks with agencies are part of an overall brand push now that the site has made specific plans for its vision.
Dive Insight:
Mayer spoke on Yahoo's image Thursday at an event for Advertising Week, saying "one of the things we've had through our history is a personality and a point of view. Yahoo has a brand, a value, a perspective." Despite all of Yahoo's acquisitions and plans, it still has seen revenue declines and no growth in display ad revenue in six consecutive quarters—meaning a marketing overhaul is likely much needed.
