EA Mobile launches next of several iPhone games
Electronic Arts Inc.'s EA Mobile has announced that Spore Origins will be available later this month, the first of a series of mobile games the company will release for the iPhone and iPod touch.
The game takes full advantage of the devices' built-in accelerometer as players tilt, turn and twist their way through a world made of primordial ooze. In conjunction with the launch of Spore Origins, EA Mobile also announced a list of nine games in development for both the iPhone and iPod Touch platforms.
"In North America, AT&T is concluding a successful exclusive launch period and EA Mobile is excited by the preliminary results we are seeing," said Patrick Gunn, director of marketing, direct-to-consumer, for EA Mobile, Los Angeles.
"As we launch on other carriers, it is noteworthy to point out that there will be a version of the game available on Sept. 7 on iPhone/iPod touch that takes advantage of unique features like the accelerometer and touch screen," he said.
EA Mobile launched mobile versions of Tetris, Scrabble and Sudoku last month.
Spore Origins uses the platforms' motion-sensing technology to let gamers navigate a primordial tidepool on a quest to evolve.
EA Mobile uses a variety of traditional and non-traditional marketing tactics to encourage consumer awareness and adoption.
"Noteworthy are our strong relationships with top media and bloggers and our partnerships with carriers like AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon as well as partners like Apple that help deliver our message on deck, online and in-store," Mr. Gunn said.
"Our refreshed Web site and mobile site at http://www.eamobile.com offers the ability to educate consumers directly," he said. "The sites feature an all-new look-and-feel that is fresh, clean and easy to navigate and provides a vastly improved trial and purchase experience for our customers.
"Strong online and mobile advertising ensures that consumers connect to our content when they are in the market to purchase."
The other nine titles EA Mobile is developing for the iPhone and iPod touch are Yahtzee Adventures, EA Mini Golf, Lemonade Tycoon, Mahjong, Monopoly: Here & Now The World Edition, SimCity, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 09, Need for Speed Undercover and The Sims 3.
Spore Origins will be available globally from the Apple iTunes App Store on iPhone and iPod touch, or by visiting the EA Store at http://eastore.ea.com or http://www.eamobile.com from an iPhone.
Additional versions of Spore Origins are also available for regular mobile phones.
"Spore Origins will be available to mobile consumers worldwide on a large selection of handsets -- as well as smart phones -- including the top handsets from all the major carriers," Mr. Gunn said.
All iPod games are available for the third-generation iPod nano, iPod classic and fifth-generation iPod and can be sent as a gift using the iTunes gifting feature (http://www.itunes.com).
EA Mobile is exploring the possibility of adding in-game mobile advertising.
"Spore Origins will not have in-game advertising, but EA Mobile is working on other exciting, yet-to-be-announced initiatives that do include in-game advertising," Mr. Gunn said. "We are excited by the possibility that in-game advertising offers in cases where it adds value to game-play for the consumer."
