Yahoo offers oneSearch voice platform to BlackBerry, Nokia users
Yahoo has expanded its mobile voice search platform oneSearch to various BlackBerry and Nokia handsets.
In expanding the accessibility of Yahoo oneSearch with voice, Yahoo has integrated the voice-enabled search into the Yahoo oneSearch shortcut on select Nokia Series 60 devices, and into Yahoo Go 3.0 on select Blackberry and Nokia Series 60 and S40 devices. These enhancements are now available in the U.S., Britain, India, Singapore, the Philippines and Canada.
"Voice is an incredible input mechanism for mobile search and in fact we've seen a 35 percent user increase in the volume of overall mobile services since adding voice," said Cory Pforzheimer, spokesman for Yahoo, Sunnyvale, CA. "Voice is a great way to get people engaged and get them to search more frequently.
"It helps consumers get around the inhibitors of search on mobile devices, such as needing to type in long queries and being hard to discover, having to click on a browser and find a search engine," he said. "Using oneSearch, with one click, you're right to the search box."
Once oneSearch 2.0 is installed, it only takes one click on the mobile screen to initiate a search.
Consumers can either speak or type a search for anything, from movie times and sports scores to stock quotes and restaurants.
Consumers no longer have to hunt through their mobile phone for a browser and search engine to conduct a search.
The product also includes Search Assist, enabling spelling suggestions and real-time related concepts for more refined search results.
Yahoo Go 3.0, Yahoo's all-in-one mobile offering, has a feature-rich user interface, a personalized start page and services accessible through widgets.
By integrating Yahoo oneSearch with voice into Yahoo Go 3.0, Yahoo has expanded the convenience of voice search to new consumers.
These product enhancements reinforce Yahoo's vision for the next generation of mobile search by making it easier for users to discover, initiate and input search queries.
Yahoo oneSearch provides on the go consumers with highly relevant results and better answers to any type of query.

"The expansion of Yahoo's oneSearch with voice fits in with our larger mobile initiatives, with the goal of reaching billions of consumes across all different carriers and devices," Mr. Pforzheimer said. "We've designed oneSearch and Yahoo Go to be extremely powerful on whatever device consumers have.
"One of the key differentiators versus our competitors is that we're not building an operating system and we're not focusing on one device," he said. "We're making mobile products and services work regardless of the type of device."
