NASCAR brings high-speed thrills to mobile

ESPN and mobile content provider MediaFLO USA have partnered to bring NASCAR live to mobile phones.

Racing fans can now access the thrilling speed, and excitement of live NASCAR coverage directly on their handsets. From August 5 to August 31, the mobile TV service will be available to AT&T and Verizon Wireless subscribers.

"FLO TV is the only mobile TV service that delivers the immediacy of live sports with stunning picture quality, and our NASCAR coverage, on ESPN Mobile gives racing fans a great reason to experience FLO TV for themselves," said Jonathan Barzilay, senior vice president of programming and advertising at MediaFLO USA, San Diego, CA.

In addition to offering NASCAR Nationwide Series coverage, subscribers will also have access to six Sprint Cup Series races on ESPN Mobile TV, additional other sports events throughout the summer, as well as continued sports programming from CBS, ESPN, FOX and NBC Sports on NBC 2Go throughout the year.

This service is available in 58 markets to AT&T Mobile TV with FLO consumers as well as to Verizon Wireless V CAST Mobile TV subscribers. With these subscriptions, TV enthusiasts can watch entertainment from networks such as CBS, CBS College Sports, CBS News, Comedy Central, ESPN, the FOX network, MTV, NBC 2GO, NBC, NBC Sports, NBC News, CNBC, MSNBC, NickToons and Nickelodeon.

Pricing packages vary by wireless carrier, but the service typically retails for $15 per month.

Since partnering with V CAST Mobile TV from Verizon Wireless in March of last year, MediaFLO USA has delivered an estimated 3,000 hours of live sports coverage.

This initiative follows closely behind MediaFlo's EXPN coverage. MediaFlo and ESPN are offering EXPN, a dedicated X Games video channel that launched July 16 and will run until Aug. 8.

"Live sports are a sweet spot for mobile TV, and our consumers love live sports programming," Mr. Barzilay said. "Our NASCAR coverage, delivered in conjunction with ESPN Mobile TV, gives sports fans another compelling reason to experience the immediacy and quality of the FLO TV service for themselves.

"It also further highlights the powerful lineup of sports programming we offer consumers," he said.
