- Last month, AOL closed a deal to acquire video ad exchange Adap.tv. Within the same month, AOL was able to move into the No. 1 spot for most video ads served in the U.S.
- During the month of September, AOL ran 3.72 billion video ads to reach 50% of U.S. online video views while Google ran 3.24 billion to reach 36% according to comScore.
- Adap.tv was critical in AOL's passing of Google to the number one spot, accounting for 84% of video ads attributed to AOL.
Beating Google at anything is a feat to be celebrated. Beating Google at video ad views is a huge deal, as the company owns YouTube, which attracts 1 billion viewers each month. Allowing Adap.tv to continue as a standalone entity was clearly the right move on AOL's part.
