- Midwest startup Viewswagen is working to bring targeted advertising into the cars of rideshare services Uber, Lyft, and Sidecar.
- Viewswagen will launch its efforts on May 1 to install tablets that provide interactive ads for passengers into the cars.
- Drivers would receive $3 an hour over what they made with Uber, Lyft, or Sidecar as an incentive to carry the tablets.
Traditional taxis have been already carrying touch screens for quite some time, so Viewswagen's goals seem like a natural progression. Company execs say that typical out-of-home ads aren't targeted enough to be effective.
Ridesharing services gather a lot of data that marketers could use to target certain demographics or locations. Examples of the targeting could be providing a holiday ad for a rider on the way to a shopping mall in November, or displaying an ad for a local broker if the rider is on the way to a mortgage company.
