- A recent deal between Yahoo and Yelp that integrated local business listings has caused some entrepreneurs to lose years of positive reviews.
- Businesses with listings on Yahoo Local reset to exclusively have Yelp reviews after receiving feedback on Yelp, thus wiping out any reviews previously held on Yahoo Local.
- One company, Colonial Hardwood Flooring, claims to have lost six years of reviews, which were replaced with one new Yelp review posted in February 2014.
In the partnership, Yahoo and Yelp did disclose that Yelp listings would now be posted on Yahoo Local. The problem is that it wasn't clear to businesses that this would mean the loss of all previous Yahoo Local reviews. Perhaps Yahoo and Yelp could have found a way to not reset reviews when integrating Yelp into Yahoo's listings, or at least could have explained to businesses in a clearer way what was going to happen. Considering Yahoo needs businesses for ad dollars, this could be detrimental to business.
