Dive Brief:
- Online real estate marketplace Auction.com, has named David Thompson as the new CMO after receiving $50 million in funding from Google Capital last week.
- Thompson, a WebEx veteran and co-founder of LeadRocket, will be taking over for Megan Hanley, who departed from Auction.com a year ago.
- The new CMO's main task will be to market to the site's B2B customers, who make up as much as 90% of its business.
Dive Insight:
A year-long absence can be tough to walk into, but the Google money should ease the pain. Like most B2B sales, the majority of Auction.com customers are reoccurring, but according to AdAge, 30% are new, which will present a unique challenge for Thompson and his team. The good news is Thompson has access to a team at Google that can help him in his new position.
