- Yahoo announced via a Tumblr post that it will cut some of its less popular products and services to help it focus on innovation.
- Included in the cuts are People Search, Yahoo Voices, Xobni, the toolbar for Chrome, Network Service, and Bookmarks.
- The downsizing will allow Yahoo to focus on what is calls its "four core areas": Search, Communications, Digital Magazines, and Video. It also plans to invest more time into acquired businesses like Flickr and Tumblr.
Yahoo has been on a rollercoaster ride for the past few years — acquiring and releasing products left and right. A downsizing and spring cleaning could be really good for the firm to help it regain focus. Any products or services that aren't popular are just draining resources that could be allocated for better use.
